Research Fellow and PhD Studentship opportunities in hepatology; clinical and basic science projects.
Expansion of the Hepatology Research Group at Plymouth University in the Institute of Translational & Stratified Medicine has created four exciting MD / PhD studentship opportunities:
- There a two Clinical Research Fellow posts available that would suit a clinical trainee in Gastroenterology and Hepatology, to study alcoholic hepatitis and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, hosted by the South West Liver Unit, Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
- A further Clinical Research Fellow post, funded by NIHR would suit a Pathology trainee to study novel vaccine strategies in hepatocellular carcinoma.
- A basic science PhD studentship is also available that would suit a biomedical science graduate to study mitochondrial dysfunction in NASH.
Expansion of liver research in Plymouth is aligned with building new £14.8 million state of the art laboratory facilities at the Derriford Research Facility, which will create a hub of world-class expertise for health and medicine, sitting alongside Derriford Hospital, medical companies, the Peninsula Clinical Trials Unit and the NIHR Peninsula Clinical Research Network. Plymouth University is already producing internationally recognised research in areas of health and medicine. The 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF) ranks us first in the UK for research output in clinical medicine, with 80% of the research undertaken regarded as significant or world leading.
