The DFG-funded research training group (GRK 2213) „Membrane Plasticity in Tissue Development and Remodeling" studies dynamic processes at the cell membrane as an interface of cell-cell communication. The focus is on molecular signals affecting plasma membrane morphology during organ development and tissue homeostasis.
The GRK 2213 offers positions for 11 Research Assistants (PhD student positions)
Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E13, 65 %). The positions are limited to a period of 3 years starting at October 1st, 2016.
Within the scope of the assigned duties, the position will offer the possibility of independent scientific research, which can be used for further qualification. The GRK offers a doctoral program (in English) educating life scientists and featuring excellent research conditions, a comprehensive curriculum complemented by a broad supervision and mentoring network. The graduate students will conduct research under the supervision of internationally renowned scientists from the Faculties of Biology and Medicine of the Philipps-Universität Marburg as well as the Max-Planck-Institute Bad Nauheim.
PhD projects will address the formation of receptor and adhesion complexes, trafficking and signal transduction, actin and microtubule dynamics, phosphoinositide signaling and miRNA processing. Graduate students will gain theoretical background in research areas such as embryonic development, cell migration, metastasis, tissue homeostasis and repair with important implications for complex diseases. They will learn genetic and molecular methods and use state-of-the-art techniques like super-resolution and live-cell spinning disk confocal microscopy.
We are looking for highly motivated applicants with a Master of Science or equivalent degree in Life Sciences. Successful candidates are expected to have a strong background in Cell Biology / Developmental Biology / Molecular Biology or Biochemistry and possess excellent English skills.
