Manchester School of Art and Hollings Faculty (Dept of Apparel) invite applications for Phd and MRes studentships. Our programmes have a long history of successful research supervision in the practices, theories and histories in the fields of art, design, architecture, fashion, film and new media.
We welcome practice-based and collaborative research proposals as well as traditional PhD / MRes projects. We also have four studentships which are based in cultural and commercial organisations – see below.
Research candidates will be provided with expert supervision, including cross-institutional supervision and mentoring where appropriate, both subject-specific and generic training, and professional support to prepare for and develop a career.
PhD and MA by Research studentships with MIRIAD (Manchester School of Art)
We seek high quality candidates for studentship awards. These are aimed primarily at applicants who wish to propose individual research projects. Consideration will also be given to projects involving organizations outside of Higher Education in the fields of art, design, architecture, film, new media, and other affiliated subjects within the HEFCE REF2014 Unit of Assessment 34 for Art & Design.
The successful candidate will be supervised by leading practitioners and academics from the Manchester School of Art. Trained in the practices, histories or theories of art, design, new media, architecture or a related discipline, you will have substantial skills, at least to Masters level or equivalent. We welcome applications with interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary perspectives.
