The International Graduate Program “Molecular Biology and Medicine of the Lung” (MBML) is the leading lung educational platform of the University of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen, Germany. We are now seeking highly qualified and motivated individuals for full-time doctoral studies in several areas of lung physiology and pathology. Research topics include genetic programmes that drive early and late lung development, the genetic and physiological basis of pulmonary diseases, including pulmonary hypertension; acute lung injury and pulmonary oedema; lung fibrosis, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, including emphysema; cystic fibrosis; lung transplantation; fungal, viral and bacterial infections of the lung; and bronchopulmonary dysplasia. The research is undertaken in a dynamic and exciting research environment. The University of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center is one of the world’s leading pulmonary centres, and is recognised for excellence both in basic scientific research and in the clinical management of patients with lung disease. The research projects are offered at three participating institutions: the University of Giessen (in Giessen), the University of Marburg (in Marburg), and the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research (in Bad Nauheim).
Applications are welcomed from candidates trained in any biological discipline, and well as applicants with a primary degree in human or veterinary medicine. Students will receive a monthly stipend, and depending on their qualifications and the projects selected, may be eligible to register for one of the four doctoral degrees offered, including the PhD, the Dr rer. Nat., the Dr. biol. Hum. and the Dr. med. Candidates must be in possession of a Master’s degree in the life sciences or equivalent, or a primary degree in human or veterinary medicine, by 1st October 2016, or must have completed the requirements for the award of the said degree by that date.
