The Department of Mathematics and Systems Analysis at Aalto University School of Science invites applications for one or two (1-2) Postdoctoral researcher position(s) and two (2) PhD student positions in Mathematics. The positions are for one year, with a possible extension up to two/four years (postdoc/PhD student).
The Algebra, Number Theory, and Applications (ANTA) research group is presently seeking to hire
1. One or two postdoctoral researchers, preferably with a PhD in Algebraic Number Theory, Algebra, or Combinatorics, and with an interest towards practical applications. Alternatively, a candidate with a suitable degree in Communications Engineering or Computer Science with a solid background in the above fields of mathematics can fit the job description. The postdoc(s) will carry out research around the themes of the ANTA group and assist in student supervision (see tentative topics below).
2. Two PhD students with a strong background and maturity in mathematics to carry out thesis work around the research themes of the group. Tentative thesis topics: 1) Private information retrieval and keyword search from coded databases and distributed storage systems. 2) Algebraic lattices and applications to reliable and secure wireless communications and (physical layer) network coding.
The applications should be in English, addressed to the responsible professor Camilla Hollanti, and submitted through eRecruitment system by 31 August, 2016 (doctoral candidates) or by 15 September, 2016 (postdoctoral researchers).
