PhD position in Civil Engineering HKUST

Applications are invited for a PhD position in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering atthe Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) under the supervision of Chair Professor Mohamed S. GHIDAOUI and Assistant Professor Elias G. DIMITRAKOPOULOS (Civil and
Environmental Engineering, HKUST). The research is a part of a wider programme on “Smart Urban water supply systems” (http://smartuws.ust.hk/ ). Students with strong interests in one or more of the following areas (fluid dynamics , fluid-structure interaction, waterhammer, and acoustic waves in water)

Eligibility
This is a call for high caliber candidates with a Master (or equivalently 5 year Diploma) in mechanical or civil engineering, who wish to pursue a PhD degree in Civil Engineering at HKUST.

English Requirements:
 Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Paper-based test (PBT) score ≥ 650, Internet-based test (iBT) score ≥ 95
 International English Language Testing System (IELTS): overall score ≥ 7.0, all sub-scores ≥ 6.0

Funding
The standard studentship is approximately HK$15,000 (approximately €1,650) per month tax free.
Strong candidates will be supported to apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme. The Hong Kong
PhD Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$240,000 (approximately €27,000) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 per year, for 3 years.
