This Summer School aims at providing an understanding of the specific models of environmental, economic and social development that have been implemented along the French Mediterranean. In theory and in practice, participants will be encouraged to focus on three different interacting poles: the managing of the environment in a sustainable way; the social, economic and cultural development in relation to tourism; and the region’s opening to an intercultural dimension in a European and globalized world.
These issues will be addressed theoretically in sessions taught by university professors. Field trips and visits to local businesses and organizations will also provide a different, more technical and pragmatic, angle. The models of development implemented in the Region of Languedoc-Roussillon may show that preserving a sustainable environment is not necessarily at odds with a viable socio-economic growth.
