Synthetic biology (SB) is a new and exciting multidisciplinary field that has the ambitious goal of “engineering biology”. The goal of synthetic biologists is to (re)engineer biological systems through the application of engineering principles. Engineered biological systems are finding applications in industry and medicine and, equally importantly, provide a basis for understanding natural biological systems.
Join SynBio CDT – the World’s first graduate school in Synthetic Biology
SynBioCDT is a collaboration between the Universities of Oxford, Bristol and Warwick and is funded by the research councils EPSRC and BBSRC. It offers comprehensive training in the design and engineering of biological systems encompassing not only individual cells but also self-assembled biomimetic systems, engineered microbial communities and multicellular organisms, combining the multiple perspectives of engineering, life and physical sciences. This breadth of coverage will produce a skilled, energized and well-funded UK-wide SB community with the opportunity to revolutionise bio-industries.
Synthetic Biology at the University of Warwick
The University of Warwick is a leader in SB research and hosts the Warwick Centre for Integrative Synthetic Biology (WISB), one of the six national centres in SB. WISB creates a vibrant SB community at Warwick, spanning Schools of Life Sciences, Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, and Medicine and is globally connected to other SB centres in the US, Brazil, Spain and Germany.
