75 PhD Scholarships, Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England, UK (2017)

The Consortium for the Humanities and the Arts South-East England (CHASE) hosts one of 11 Doctoral Training Partnerships awarded funding by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. We are now seeking applications from outstanding graduates to undertake doctoral research starting in October 2017.

To be considered for funding you must have applied for a place to study at one of the CHASE institutions by Wednesday 11 January 2017.

CHASE is comprised of The Courtauld Institute of Art, Goldsmiths, University of London, the Open University, the Universities of East Anglia, Essex, Kent and Sussex, SOAS, University of London and Birkbeck, University of London. CHASE studentships are not currently offered at SOAS or Birkbeck.

Our intellectual environment fosters the problem-driven and interdisciplinary research vital to addressing the new challenges of a world shaped by the speed of technological innovation and global change. Understanding and promoting the value of human culture and creativity in addressing such challenges is central to the CHASE vision of postgraduate research and professional development. Across CHASE, nearly 1,000 academics in the arts and humanities, many of whom are also leading practitioners (artists, curators, novelists, poets, musicians, lawyers), offer a broad and diverse range of supervision. We support discipline-based projects, but also specialise in interdisciplinary research and creative practice. Our research and training environment encourages our doctoral students to develop interdisciplinary methodologies in emerging fields of study and to explore how to integrate their research with developments in digital cultures. In addition, our network of partnerships with leading arts and humanities organisations and creative industries provides an outstanding resource for future CHASE scholars.

Successful applicants will have their fees paid, as well as receiving a stipend to cover living expenses and access to further funds for research expenses (where eligible).
