Sussex Neuroscience is a thriving community of over 50 research groups on a single campus, with strengths in all major areas of contemporary neuroscience. The 4-year PhD Programme offers students a first year of laboratory rotations, chosen from over 30 research groups, together with a tailored selection of taught modules, to broaden knowledge and experience. Students are then in an excellent position to choose their PhD project for the remaining three years. The first year supports transition into neuroscience from other science disciplines, and additional training opportunities (both UK and abroad) are provided throughout the PhD.
This is a highly competitive Programme that attracts the brightest students internationally. Funding provides UK/EU students with a UK Research Council rate stipend, and UK/EU fees are waived. Students from outside the EU are encouraged to apply; we may be able to contribute top-up funds to exceptional international students who are able to secure partial external funding.
Our campus is home to both the University of Sussex and the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, encouraging a truly integrated environment for both research faculty and students at all stages of study. The campus is set in beautiful countryside at the edge of the South Downs National Park, and is 10 minutes away from the hugely popular, vibrant seaside city of Brighton.
