The Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) has vacant positions for Several PhD candidates for a project on high-resolution liquid chromatography. The positions are in three different projects within the Analytical Chemistry Group of professors P.J. Schoenmakers, G.L. Corthals and J.G.M. Janssen. The STAMP and HOSANA projects are embedded in the Centre of Analytical Sciences Amsterdam (CASA), a collaboration between groups of the University of Amsterdam, the VU University Amsterdam (professor G.W. Somsen et al.) and other institutes in the region.
Requirements
Candidates should have demonstrated affinity with one or more of the following (sub-) projects:
- analytical separations (especially liquid chromatography or field-flow fractionation)
- preparation and characterization of stationary-phase materials
- mechanical engineering and 3D printing (design and construction of high-tech instrumentation)
- spectroscopic and/or mass-spectrometric detection
They should motivate their interest in contributing to a technology-oriented high-resolution separation-science project in an analytical-chemistry environment, making reference to the above list of aspects.
Candidates should have a recent MSc degree in a field relevant to the project. Candidates who expect to obtain an MSc degree before 1 September 2017 may also apply. Ability to function within and contribute to an international research team is required.
