10 PhD Scholarships in North American Studies, Free University of Berlin, Germany (2017)

The Graduate School of the John F. Kennedy-Institute for North American Studies invites applications for the academic year 2017/2018. The School's program is dedicated to the comprehensive study of the United States and Canada. Its unique interdisciplinary approach bridges the humanities and social sciences. The language of instruction is English.

Applicants interested in pursuing a doctoral research project related to North American Studies must have a completed degree (Master’s or equivalent) with above average marks. The program is open to candidates with a degree in American Cultural Studies, American Literature, History, Political Science, Sociology, and Economics or a related discipline. Candidates are expected to submit an outline of their doctoral research project as part of their application.

Doctoral grants are awarded for a maximum of three years. Continued funding is dependent on the candidate’s performance and positive annual evaluations of his/her work. Candidates with children are eligible for a fourth year of funding and a child allowance according to DFG regulations.
