The University of Jyväskylä is a nationally and internationally significant research university and an expert on education that focuses on human and natural sciences. The University is Finland’s leading expert in teacher education and adult education, as well as the major exporter of education. The Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences is the only one in the country. The University of Jyväskylä is known for its dynamic operating culture and strong commitment to social responsibility.
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Jyväskylä in central Finland is a world class research institution training mathematicians and statisticians for diverse jobs in industry, education, and academic research. The main research areas in the department are mathematical analysis, stochastics, inverse problems, and statistics with their applications. In mathematical analysis the research is focused on geometric analysis, nonlinear partial differential equations, and geometric measure theory. In stochastics the key research area is stochastic analysis. The research group in Inverse problems focuses its research on inverse problems in geometry and partial differential equations. These have applications in medical and industrial imaging. The department is a member of two networks of the Finnish Centre of Excellences, one in Inverse Problems, another in Analysis and Dynamical Systems.
Applications are currently being solicit for positions in Mathematics effect from August 1, 2015 oras soon as possible thereafter:
Postdoctoral Researchers (9 positions) for a fixed term of maximum four years.
Strong preference will be given to candidates whose research interests overlap and/or complement the main research areas of the department. The postdoctoral researchers are expected to focus on scientific research, but also to participate in teaching within their own areas of expertise. The amount of teaching duties is rather small.
