Up to four postdoctoral positions are available in molecular/microbiology (2) and medicinal chemistry (2) in the area of discovery and studies of novel peptide-based antibiotics. The postdoctoral fellows will be affiliated with Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and/or Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science. The positions are for 2 years (with possibility of extension) and are available from April 1st, 2017 or upon agreement.
Job description
Two postdoc projects involve design and synthesis of novel antisense antimicrobial PNA-peptide conjugates, and design and chemical synthesis of novel compounds capable of increasing the permeability of the Gram-negative envelope (i.e. enhancer molecules). A major task will be to design and synthesize new building blocks for solid phase peptide synthesis. The other two projects concern identification of novel intracellular targets for peptide and PNA based antibiotics, discovery of novel bacterial envelope-permeabilizing peptides, and studies of uptake mechanisms for selected antimicrobial peptides and PNA molecules.
Required qualifications:
- A PhD degree in organic chemistry or molecular biology or equivalent
- Relevant scientific experience supported by a strong publication record
- Proven ability to present and publish research data
- Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written
In all cases, the ability to perform the job will be the primary consideration, and thus the University of Copenhagen wishes to encourage everyone interested in this post to apply, regardless of personal background.
