Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences at the University of Tampere invites applications for Doctoral Student positions starting on January 1st, 2018.
Successful candidates pursue a doctoral degree in one of the doctoral programs of the faculty (Doctoral Program in Medicine and Life Sciences). The expected duration of full-time studies is four years and fixed-term contracts can be drawn up for a period of one to four years. The contract’s length depends on how far along in their studies the successful candidates are and when they expect to graduate.
The positions carry a four-month trial period and the progress of the thesis work is evaluated annually according to the personal study and supervisory plan for doctoral studies.
In addition to the thesis work, doctoral students teach or do other work connected to their studies at the faculty. These duties may not exceed five per cent of their total working hours.
Successful candidates will have a higher university degree, be pursuing a doctoral degree in faculty’s doctoral program and will present an approved study and research plan, before writing the contract.
Successful candidates are selected by the Scientific Postgraduate Committee based on the level of promise that they show. This is evaluated on the basis of their study and research plans and publications. Dean of the faculty will appoint the students to the positions.
The salary will be based on the demand level chart for the teaching and research staff of Finnish Universities. The preliminary level of demand is 2-4. In addition to the basic salary, a supplementary salary component will be paid according to the personal performance. Students must accept the position by January 1st, 2018 at the earliest.
