European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA), Italy (2015)

The European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation (E.MA) - organised by the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) - is:

- An intensive one-year course aimed at educating up to 100 professionals annually in the field of human rights and democratisation;
- An action- and policy-oriented approach to learning that combines legal, political, historical, anthropological, and philosophical perspectives with skills building activities;
- An in-depth study of the following areas: Human Rights Institutions, Mechanisms and Standards; Human Rights in Context: Historical, Philosophical, Religious and Anthropological Perspectives; Democratisation; Human Rights and Globalisation; Human Rights and Security;
- A study trip to familiarize with human rights field work;
- Specialised supervised research for the Master’s thesis in one of the 41 participating universities;
- A Joint Degree conferred by prestigious European universities;
- The foundation for a successful career in national, international, governmental, inter- and non-governmental organisations, as well as academic institutions dealing with human rights and democratisation.

E.MA is both a residential and an exchange programme:
- First Semester in Venice, Italy
- Second semester in one of the 41 participating universities within the members states of the European Union

Costs and Funding
The amount of the tuition fee for the academic year 2014/2015 is €4900 (plus enrolment fee of €150). Tuition fees cover the following: all courses of the European Master’s Programme in Human Rights and Democratisation, both in the first and second semesters; the reading materials for the first semester; tutorship; access to the EIUC specialised library; individual access to our closed e-learning environment; use of available IT facilities, field trip.

Students bear the responsibility to secure their full living and housing expenses prior to their arrival in Venice (estimated at a minimum of €850 per month).

Funding: EIUC offers financial support in the form of a partial contribution towards living expenses and/or a full or partial tuition waiver. This type of financial support is awarded to a limited number of students (up to 10) on the basis of academic achievement, need and geographical distribution.
