Applications are invited for 3-year PhD positions starting fall 2017, within the field of shape and topology optimization at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University of Denmark (the TopOpt group, www.topopt.dtu.dk). The PhD-projects are funded through the Villum Investigator Project InnoTop granted by the Villum Foundation.
InnoTop is a six year research program aimed at providing new and efficient algorithms for large-scale shape and topology optimization. The PhD-projects are aimed at: 1) multiscale topology optimization strategies including local and global stability; 2) topology optimization for transient problems; and 3) shape and topology optimization for aeroelastic systems.
The application must be received no later than May 23rd, 2017. Preferable project start is September 1st, 2017 or later.
Responsibilities and tasks
All projects involve extensive development and coding of computer algorithms for shape and topology optimization. Hence, only candidates with documented coding experience will be considered. Furthermore, preference will be given to candidates with experience in at least one and preferably more of the following topics:
- computational solid mechanics
- computational fluid mechanics
- finite element methods
- numerical optimization tools
- shape and/or topology optimization
Qualifications
Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.
