The Economic and Social Research Institute, founded in 1960, is located in Dublin’s South Docklands area. Its mission is to produce high quality research, relevant to Ireland’s economic and social development, with the aim of contributing to knowledge and informing policymaking and public debate. It has over 100 staff including economists, psychologists, sociologists, social scientists, support and technical staff.
The ESRI is seeking to recruit Postdoctoral Research Fellows for projects in Housing Economics and Business Economics/International Trade as part of a wider economic research again within its Economic Analysis division. ESRI research in the housing area ranges across a variety of topics including housing tenure, household debt and projections of supply, demand and credit in the housing market. In the area of business economics and international trade work is on-going on the potential impacts of Brexit on Irish firms and more broadly on the drivers of firm productivity and performance.
Description of Roles
The role in Housing Economics will contribute to a research programme on the housing market and the role in the Business Economics and International Trade role will contribute to furthering the work relating to the different aspects of the impact of Brexit on the Irish economy and determinants of firm performance. In both cases, the successful candidates will be expected to contribute to relevant high-quality research papers which can be published in both international peer-reviewed journals and domestically-oriented policy papers. The successful candidates will have a proven track record in using micro-econometric techniques in addressing research questions in these areas. Strong quantitative skills are essential and previous experience with analysis of large survey datasets of firms or households is desirable.

The successful candidates will have:
- A PhD or relevant post-graduate qualification in economics;
- Excellent quantitative skills including proven ability to use up-to-date statistical and econometric techniques;
- Research interest and knowledge in one of the following areas: the housing market, household behaviour, firm performance or international trade;
- Excellent writing skills;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- Proven ability to deliver outputs to tight deadlines;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Flexibility and capacity to contribute to other areas of ESRI research.
