EURENSSA 2017 – Creating the Sustainable City – facilitates exchange of knowledge and skills across the boundaries of academic disciplines and nationalities to enable the upcoming generation of professionals to address the challenges associated with increasing urbanization and a changing climate.

Students from (3rd year) Bachelor, Master, and PhD level are invited to share their research and experience in any of the following topics: sustainable urban planning, transportation, environmental geography, waste water treatment, air pollution, waste streams, urban ecology, urban heat and electricity systems, environmental education and communication, environmental entrepreneurship, urban food systems, environmental sociology, environmental ethics, and circular economy. EURENSSA 2017 aims not only to facilitate exchange of knowledge, but also to inspire participants to practically engage with the challenges of their city by providing encounters with some of the many successful, Amsterdam based social and environmental initiatives.

Participants of Eurenssa 2017 can expect a rich programme containing academic as well as hands-on activities. A large part of the programme are the participant presentations. Every participant will prepare a 15 minute lecture about a topic they have researched or have practical experience with. Every presentation will be followed by a brief discussion.

Who can apply?
All students and PhD students studying or doing research in environmental sciences or sustainable development. Students from other fields are welcome, too, as long as they show strong interest in urban environmental/sustainability questions or are actively involved in environmental causes. As the number of participants is limited to 30, we will select applicants based on the following criteria (not in order of importance):
- originality and relation of presentation topic to the conference theme (abstract)
- contribution to the conference (if any)
- country of origin (we want to include many nationalities)
- level of studies (we want to include Bachelor, Master, and PhD students; for bachelor students we will give preference to students in their senior year)
