The University of Urbino is launching a new interdisciplinary Ph.D. Programme in Global Studies, at the crossroads of Economics, Business, Sociology, Political Science and Law, at a time when European integration and disintegration and challenges to globalisation dominate current policy and business concerns. The Programme has a high quality faculty, including outstanding guests lecturers from major international universities.
In the edition starting in 2017-2018 the main thematic area is "International Economic Policy, Business and Governance". Ph.D. students will be trained to carry out research on economic, political and social relations across national borders. A specific attention will be given to:
- economic growth, technological change and inequality across and within countries;
- the international strategies of firms (multinational corporations and SMEs), finance and labour;
- political processes and policies carried out by European and international institutions and nation states for the governance of globalisation.
The Ph.D. Programme is developed over three years and English will be the working language. Eight positions are offered in the 2017-2018 Ph.D. Programme, including six positions with scholarships covering fees and an annual tax-free stipend at standard Italian rates (€ 13,600 per year; the amount is increased by 50% for training periods outside Italy). Teaching is organized in Introductory and Background courses, Main Courses with final evaluation, Data Labs and Weekly Seminars. After a first year of courses and seminars in Urbino, students will be encouraged to undertake up to one year at major international institutions associated with the Programme.
