MEMO2 is a European Training Network (MSCA-ETN) and involves 9 academic partners and 13 companies in Sweden, Poland, Germany, The United Kingdom, Switzerland, France, and The Netherlands. We will identify and evaluate methane emissions and support mitigation measures by
I) developing new and advanced mobile methane measurements tools and networks, II) isotopic source identification, and III) modelling at different scales.
MEMO2 will bridge the gap between large-scale scientific estimates from in situ monitoring programs and the ‘bottom-up’ estimates of emissions from local sources that are used in the national reporting.
The project aims also to educate a new generation of “cross–thinking” scientists, which are able to effectively implement novel measurement and modelling tools in an interdisciplinary and intersectoral context.
Each candidate will be employed at one of the universities and enrolled in a local PhD programme, while at the same time being part of an integrated research team and research project at network level.
The starting date for all positions is preferably between April and August 2017. The positions are full-time for 3 years.
Qualifications
The PhD program of MEMO2 is ambitious and demands highly motivated candidates, with a strong background in fields requested for the individual projects and excellent English language skills (spoken and written). A unique feature of ETN´s is the combination of research and training units, which includes the opportunity to perform secondments of several weeks or months at the facilities of other consortium members. Candidates will benefit from a dedicated training program in the various fields of expertise of the consortium members and also from this network of internationally recognized scientists and private companies. Candidates must be willing to travel abroad for secondments and measurement campaigns, and to present their research to an international research community. As this project requires close collaboration within the consortium, candidates are expected to be excellent team players. MSCA-ETN projects are part of Horizon 2020 and offer attractive salaries and working conditions following the conditions as described in the respective work programs.
