Value the Difference – Preventing youth radicalisation - Volume II, Training Course
29 October - 5 November 2017 | Baitz (close to Berlin), Germany
As indicated by the European Agenda on Security (2015), the OSCE report “Working with youth and for youth” (2015) and the EU Radicalisation Awareness Network (2016), nowadays young people are increasingly confronted with the threat of radicalisation. The process of radicalisation affects the European youth equally encompassing adversatively political, social, or religious affiliations and leads to the same outcome: a militancy based on a radical ideology of hate and exclusion. This phenomenon originates mostly from political and/or religious organisations promoting radical value systems among young people, which are appealing inasmuch as they offer to paint the complexity of the world black and white. This training course seeks to address two main needs of youth work's stakeholders. Firstly, we open up a critical, structured reflection on youth workers' ways of working with youth taking into account the complexity of the youth radicalisation and the need of “non-formal educators” to be updated with innovative knowledge, skills and methodologies. Secondly, we critically analyse youth centres and youth organisations' capacities and strategies to cooperate with other public and private stakeholders. The outlined training course “Value the Difference – Preventing youth radicalisation: Volume” offers youth workers and youth leaders from 9 Programme Countries a well-conceived learning experience, aimed to reflect upon theory and practice of non-formal education providers on the main topics above presented.
Please be aware that this is the 2nd part of the training course ‘Value the difference – preventing youth radicalisation’. It is NOT MANDATORY to have taken part in the first round, we however will recommend you some literature to read beforehand. The first training course had been focused on terminology, analysis of root-causes, push/pull factors and already a few educational interventions.
The 2nd part will be dedicated to focus more closely on two root causes, which were mentioned as highly relevant for different types of extremism. This will be In/Exclusion (first block) as well as Labeling/Discrimination (second block).
