IMEKOFOODS (TC23) 3rd Ιnternational Conference | “Metrology Promoting Standardization and Harmonization in Food and Nutrition” | 1 – 4 .10.2017, KEDEA building, Thessaloniki, Greece

The Laboratory of Food Chemistry and Technology ( School of Chemistry, Aristotle Univ of Thessaloniki, Greece) together with the national MO HELLASLAB are honoured to invite the experts of the (IMEKOFOODS) TC 23 committee but also from other committees whose research activities fall within the scope of the conference to join us in this international event that will take place next October in the cosmopolitan historical Thessaloniki.

The presentations of the two previous IMEKOFOODS conferences addressed successfully the latest developments in food related measurements using a variety of techniques and approaches. In addition to technical and poster sessions, useful scientific discussions with other participants may encourage new collaborations and strengthen for sure existing ones.

The conference is promoted by PRO-METROFOOD H2020 project “Progressing towards the construction of METROFOOD-RI” (GA n. 739568)

F&N metrology is an emerging discipline that is helpful in strengthening the reliability of analytical data, and integration of metrological concepts into the measurement process is the need of the hour. This step is necessary also to ensure sustainability of the analytical QA process. These tasks are looked upon as a twin assignment under TC23:

• enhancing the reliability of F&N measurements by introducing metrological concepts, and
• strengthening the metrological capability of the professional pool (capacity building for young investigators), since the academic systems in the F&N areas generally do not provide for adequate training that includes teaching metrology.

The TC23 focuses on addressing a variety of metrological issues connected with food and nutritional measurements, e.g. food safety assays and relevant inorganic chemical metrology aspects.
