The Department of Sociology of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (FMG) is seeking two postdoctoral researchers for two years to strengthen the AMCIS research agenda, and to build bridges between the involved disciplines. Candidates for these two open positions should fit with the AMCIS research agenda and contribute to bringing it to a next level. We have a particular interest in the themes: inequality in health, labor market and welfare state policies, and/or organizations, but strong candidates with other interests that fit with the AMCIS agenda are also encouraged to apply.
Besides these two open postdocs, one postdoctoral research position is available for three years, in the Vici project Between Institutions and Mechanisms: Education and Inequality in Comparative Perspective, directed by Herman van de Werfhorst. For this project we are looking for expertise on either of the following themes, all in relation to cross-national differences in student performance or educational attainment: educational psychology (e.g. motivation, aspirations, stereotype threat, expectancy-value), instruction and learning, accountability issues, and/or economic inequality.Job description
The three postdoctoral positions are offered at the University of Amsterdam, Department of Sociology.
AMCIS develops and strengthens research in the FMG on various sorts of inequalities across the life course, in particular in education, the labor market, political involvement, health and well-being. It has a strong focus on quantitative social science research, often from a life course and/or comparative perspective. Existing research projects cover the whole life course, from early childhood till post-retirement.
AMCIS recruits postdocs with whom agreements are made in finding external funding, for example through the VENI scholarship of the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research NWO. We select candidates who will be strong competitors in such funding schemes. The two open Postdocs are affiliated with at least one senior faculty member of AMCIS, with whom a personal research agenda will be developed. Preference is given to candidates who are able to bridge disciplines within AMCIS, while links with other fields are also appreciated.
The Vici postdoctoral researcher will work in a team of around 6 researchers.
