The Center of Excellence in Stem Cell Metabolism (MetaStem) is a new Academy of Finland funded research unit in the University of Helsinki. The unit addresses the interplay between self-renewal, differentiation and metabolism, with an interdisciplinary approach spanning from studies on fruit fly glucose metabolism to translational models of diabetes. Induced pluripotent stem cells, organoids, fly and mouse models, genome editing, single-cell transcriptomics etc. will be used to investigate the role of mitochondrial protein homeostasis and segregation, nutrient sensing, and metabolic switches in stem cell fate decisions. The participating four research groups, with for example three ERC grants, operate on the two Life Science campuses of the University of Helsinki, in the Faculties of Medicine, and Biological and Environmental Sciences, and in the Helsinki Institute of Life Science

POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHERS

The post-doctoral researchers will work in one of the research groups listed below, and the applicant can indicate the preferred group(s) in the application.

All Post-doctoral Researchers are expected to have a Ph.D degree (or about to graduate) in a relevant field. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English, have good interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience based on demand level 5-6 of the University salary system. The full-time position can start in January 2018 or upon mutual agreement.
