The Medical Sciences Summer School programme of the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), University of Groningen, consists of several Summer Schools encompassing a wide range of medical disciplines. The aim of the Summer School programme is to provide international students with a highly stimulating environment and increase their knowledge in specific areas of medicine and biomedical sciences. A hallmark of all Summer Schools is the combination of clinical practice and research.
Biobank research involves the use of systematic collections of human biomaterials and related data, in population-based or clinical investigations, to answer a broad array of research questions. Biobanks and large population cohorts are increasingly recognized as essential tools for exploring the origin of diseases, understanding the relationships between genetic and lifestyle determinants and diseases, and developing new diagnostic and drug therapies.
This five-day programme addresses the fundamental concepts in biobanking research.
The course is intended for PhD students or graduates in biomedical, social, or behavioral sciences, or those with equivalent professional experience. Masters students with sufficient background and motivation may request permission to participate from the course instructor.
All applications received before 1 May, 2018 will be considered and notified of acceptance. Applications received thereafter will be considered on a case-by-case basis, pending availability.
