Leiden University and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) offer three four-year PhD positions at the KITLV/Royal Netherlands Institute of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies. The PhD students will be working at the Leiden-based KITLV, an institute of the KNAW, and will defend their PhD thesis at Leiden University. One position is shared with the Faculty of Humanities, one with the Faculty of Law, and one with the Faculty of Social Sciences. The PhD candidates will be jointly supervised by senior researchers at KITLV and Leiden University.
KITLV and Leiden University are working closely together in the fields of Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies. Several departments and institutes in the Faculty of Humanities partake in this cooperation. In the Faculty of Law, this is mainly the Van Vollenhoven Instituut for Law, Governance and Development. In the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Institute of Cultural Anthropology and Development Sociology is KITLV’s main partner.
Requirements
The candidate should have a Master degree in the Humanities, Law or Social Sciences, with an evident interest in Southeast Asian or Caribbean Studies.
