BioMediTech at the University of Tampere invites applications for Doctoral Student positions. The positions are for a fixed-term of one to four years. Successful candidates must accept the position by 1 June 2015 at the earliest and by 1 October at the latest.
Successful candidates pursue a doctoral degree in the doctoral program of BioMediTech at the University of Tampere. The expected duration of full-time studies is four years. Fixed-term contracts can be drawn up for a period of one to four years; the contract’s length depends on how far along in their studies the successful candidates are and when they expect to graduate.
The progress of the thesis work is evaluated annually in thesis committee meetings. The successful candidates are expected to deliver a memo of those meetings to the doctoral program coordinator.
In addition to the thesis work, doctoral students teach or do other work connected to their studies at the Unit. These duties may not exceed five per cent of their total working hours.
Successful candidates will have a higher university degree, be pursuing a doctoral degree in BioMediTech’s doctoral program and will present an approved study and research plan, before writing the contract.
Successful candidates are selected based on the level of promise that they show (general merits of the applicant, scientific level of the research plan and the feasibility of the plan, progress of the work, supervision arrangements, and student’s own motivation) and this is evaluated on the basis of their CV and study and research plans.
The base salary for the successful applicants will fall within Salary Groups 2 and 4 in the Finnish university salary system for teaching and research staff, depending on how far advanced the candidate’s research is. The base salary will be supplemented with a merit or performance increase based on the employee’s individual experience and/or performance. The positions carry a four-month trial period.
