During this 1-day event participants will discuss the importance of Artificial Intelligence for Consumers and Industry and how trustworthiness in AI can be built. The focus will be on the impact of AI on Consumer Smart Environment and Industrial Manufacturing.
AI applies to a variety of sectors where standardisation is of high relevance: smart manufacturing, robots, autonomous cars, virtual reality, healthcare, interactive speech interfaces, visual recognition, data analysis/manipulation, home appliances, cybersecurity and spatial programming. Challenges identified in the European Commission's Communication COM(2018) 237 ‘Artificial Intelligence for Europe’ refer to the deployment, interoperability, scalability, safety and liability of AI, thus creating a need for standardisation.
European standardisation is essential to avoid fragmentation in the Digital Single Market and ensure a people-centric approach to AI. CEN and CENELEC provide an environment of trust and accountability around the development and use of AI technology, addressing issues such as reliability, safety, privacy and security.
To identify the challenges posed by AI to industries and consumers, CEN and CENELEC are organising a dedicated ‘stakeholders workshop’ on “Trustworthy AI – building a framework with standardization” on 18 September 2018. The output of the workshop will be a roadmap for AI standardisation.
