The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.
The selected candidate will set up and conduct experimental field and laboratory work on water, soils and plants and independently manage field sensors and dataloggers. The candidate is expected to contribute to the development of methods for quantitative recharge assessment in agricultural, environmental and groundwater systems, using environmental isotopes. The research will be based within the Water and Marine Sciences Division of the Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC) with opportunities for cooperation with the other Divisions of EEWRC.
The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a fixed-term period, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and availability of funds.
Responsibilities
The Post-doctoral Fellow will be responsible to:
- Set up and manage hydro-meteorological field sensors
- Manage dataloggers and analyze large datasets
- Analyze soil and water samples in the laboratory
- Maintain cooperation with a variety of stakeholders
Required Qualifications
- PhD degree in Hydrology, Hydrogeology or Environmental Sciences
- Minimum 2 years of experience in experimental field research
- Maximum 3 years of Postdoctoral research experience
- Proven experience in independent, experimental hydrology fieldwork
- Record of peer-reviewed ISI publications, relevant for the job
- Experience in cooperation with a variety of stakeholders
- Strong analytical, capability of handling large datasets and organizational skills
- Highly motivated with the ability to work independently
- High level of communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to adopt to a multicultural/multinational environment
- Excellent knowledge of the English language both verbal and writing. Knowledge of the Greek language will be considered an advantage
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with environmental isotopes will be considered an advantage
