The International Max Planck Research School for Computer Science (IMPRS-CS) is a graduate program jointly run by the Max Planck Institute for Informatics (MPI-INF), the Max Planck Institute for Software Systems (MPI-SWS), and the Computer Science Department at Saarland University. IMPRS-CS operates within the framework of the Saarbruecken Graduate School of Computer Science, which is responsible for all doctoral CS students on campus.
Educating and training junior scientists is of primary importance for the future of science, research, and innovation. The Max Planck Society, in cooperation with German Universities has launched the International Max Planck Research Schools (IMPRS) initiative.
Since 1948, MPI researchers have been awarded 18 Nobel prizes, which testifies to the quality and innovation of MPI research programs.

Master’s Programs
Students who have a very good Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and first want to pursue a Master’s degree in Computer Science or Visual Computing can apply with the respective Master’s program at Saarland University. A small number of admitted students who show excellent performance and promise are selected for IMPRS-CS scholarships and become members of the IMPRS-CS.
Interested students should apply directly for admission to the :
- Master’s program in Computer Science,
- Master’s program in Visual Computing and
- Master’s program in Mathematics and Computer Science .
ELIGIBILITY
You have the right to apply for the program if:
- hold or are about to receive a master’s degree in computer science (or an equivalent degree) from a research-oriented institution of higher education;
- have an outstanding academic ranking (MSc GPA >75%) have excellent oral and written English language skills;
- show an aptitude for independent, creative work;
- have performed research and published (or submitted for publication) the results.
