The Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University has 37 faculty staff members, divided into two divisions: Mathematics and Mathematical statistics. The Division of Mathematics carries out research in a wide range of topics in pure mathematics, including algebra, analysis, combinatorics, geometry, logic and topology.
The department has an active research group in algebra, geometry, and topology, and it has grown considerably in the past few years. The group works closely with the corresponding research group at the mathematics department of KTH Royal Institute of Technology, which is at walking distance.
Project description
The department is looking to hire up to five postdoctoral researchers. We invite applicants working within algebraic topology, algebraic/arithmetic geometry, or representation theory, interpreted broadly. Successful applicants will be funded by one of several possible sources: Alexander Berglund’s grant from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation, Jonas Bergström’s grant from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation, Wushi Goldring’s internal grant, or Dan Petersen’s ERC starting grant and Wallenberg Academy Fellowship grant.
Main responsibilities
The main responsibility is to carry out research. The position also includes some teaching duties (up to 20 %), which may include supervision of students. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the activities of the department, through active participation in seminars, working groups, etc.
Qualification requirements
Postdoctoral positions are appointed primarily for purposes of research. Applicants are expected to hold a Swedish doctoral degree or an equivalent degree from another country.
Assessment criteria
The degree should have been completed no more than three years before the deadline for applications. An older degree may be acceptable under special circumstances, which may involve sick leave, parental leave, clinical attachment, elected positions in trade unions, or similar. Applicants with an older degree may instead be hired as researchers.
In the appointment process, special attention will be given to research skills. Special emphasis will be placed on the candidate’s potential to interact with the members of the research group. Applicants are expected to be able to express themselves fluently in English both oral and written, have good communication and social skills.
