The Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) is the largest research institute for freshwater ecology and inland fisheries in Germany (www.igb-berlin.de). It is a member of the Forschungsverbund Berlin e.V. (FVB) and the Leibniz-Association. The FVB manages 8 large research institutes in Berlin that have close links to all three universities in the German capital. IGB offers excellent laboratory and field facilities for interdisciplinary research, large-scale experimental facilities, and long-term research programs and data sets.

The positions are part of the AQUATAG project "Recreation activities in inland waters: Dynamics, ecological impacts, social significance and sustainable management" applied for at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). AQUATAG is an innovative interdisciplinary project that aims bringing together social-ecological interrelations in the field of recreation ecology. The project considers interactions between recreational uses, condition and attractiveness of water bodies, ecological effects as well as conflicts of use and management objectives and will consider data of social media, surveys, ecological field surveys and modelling. The content of the project will be contextualised in close exchange with relevant outdoor recreation and environmental associations and authorities.
The project will be carried out in cooperation with the Technical University Berlin (Alexandra Dehnhardt), the University Duisburg-Essen (Daniel Hering), the Technical University Dresden (Goddert von Oheimb), imug Institute at the Leibniz University Hannover (Melanie Fuljahn) and the Upper Nature Conservation Authority (Oberen Naturschutzbehörde im Regierungspräsidium) Kassel (Reinhard Rust).
