The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Wisconsin, Madison is seeking one Ph.D. student and one postdoctoral research associate to work on projects related to materials chemistry for sustainable energy and resource recovery. The work with incorporate elements of material synthesis, chemical and morphological characterization, and development of novel gas-solid and gas-liquid-solid reactor systems.
For PhD students: The candidate must have a B.S. in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, chemistry, environmental engineering, solid state physics or related fields. Candidates with a master’s degree are preferred. Previous laboratory experience with respect to novel materials synthesis and advanced characterization (e.g., XRD, SEM, TEM, EDX, XPS, FT-IR, Raman, GC-MS, ICP-AES/MS) is preferred. The candidate is expected to have a strong academic record, and excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience in working towards milestones and delivering results on time is essential. Intended start date is May/June 2018.
For Postdoctoral Research Associate: The candidate must have a PhD degree in materials chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, chemistry, environmental engineering, solid state physics or related fields. Proven track record of publications in high impact journals is a must. Excellent communication skills, ability to work in a fast paced environment and track record in developing novel experimental methods. Start date is immediate.
