Description
Volunteer pilgrims from European countries are welcome to join the international bicycle tour “Pilgrims Way” to old Catholic monuments of Volyn Region in Western Ukraine which takes place from 26 June to 3 July 2015. The main objective of the project is to establish annual volunteer tours to ancient historical monuments which miraculously survived to our time and initiate popularization of careful and respectful treatment of cultural heritage which without our oversight and efforts may disappear forever beneath our eyes. The international bicycle tour “Pilgrims Way” will discover various places of Catholic history: churches, palaces or cemeteries that are almost forgotten. This is a unique opportunity to see, touch, recollect and try to understand the history and enrich your awareness of Catholic culture. At the same time it is a great challenge to draw public attention for development further activity in the conservation of historic monuments, beauty and uniqueness of world history.
The program includes:
visiting 10 churches (including active ones);
simple cleaning up and ordering of the territory of Church of Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary (village of Kysylyn) by volunteer pilgrims;
2 video shootings (work in the expedition, state of monuments);
friendly environment, work and leisure without borders;
authentic Ukrainian dishes by the fire;
rest in the open air;
unforgettable summer journey through scenic Volyn trails;
During the journey every evening will be held a contest for the best photo and video in categories: nature, architecture and people. The three most active volunteers will be awarded in the category “Explorer of the historical heritage of Volyn” (Summer 2015).
Eligibility
The bicycle tour is opened to all young people from European countries aged 18 – 30.
Benefits
Unforgettable experience from cycling in Western Ukraine combined with cultural discovering of Catholic monuments of Volyn Region. The costs for food are covered by organizers. Accommodation is in tents. International participants need to cover travel costs on their own for reaching Ukraine.
