We are seeking four highly motivated Ph.D. researchers to join our team in the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Sciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague, Czech Republic. This study program addresses an increasing recognition of the importance of modern technologies for acquisition and analyses of spatial data (including data on forest ecosystems), increasing demands on processing of such data and their use in practical forest management and research. The program strives to prepare experts who are able to use extensive data and knowledge bases to heighten the quality of forestry decision-making and improve, for example, our capacities for crises management related to forest disturbances or forest adaptation to environmental changes. The program emphasises remote sensing-based approaches, including novel tools based on laser scanning and drone operation, spatial optimization of forest landscapes or use of complex ecosystem models. Students will get familiar with the most-recent technical equipment and diverse software products, have good opportunities to work in international teams as well as collaborate with forestry practice.
This call is on the following working positions though applicants are encouraged to submit also their own research plans for consideration:
WP 1. Terrestrial laser scanning in forestry
WP 2. Terrestrial photogrammetry in forestry
WP 3. Mapping of forest disturbance in central-eastern Europe using remote sensing
WP 4. Spatially constrained decision support system in forest management planning
Applicants should have a MSc (or equivalent) in geoinformatics, environmental or related sciences (biology, ecology, geography, forest sciences), and good English communication and writing skills. Candidates should have good analytical skills, experience with GIS and Remote Sensing programmes, and statistics. A knowledge of R-Language is a great asset. All positions have a monthly net salary of 700 - 1000 Euros based on the previous experience and performance of the applicants.
