Nine (9) PhD Positions in Physics, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany (2015)

The International Research Training Group (IRTG) 2101 Guided light, tightly packed: novel concepts, components and applications at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena offers 9 doctoral student (PhD) positions
in the field of experimental and theoretical optical physics, with emphasis on optical waveguides and related technologies to confine and to control light in ultra-compact devices. This IRTG program is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and is in collaboration with three Canadian research institutions: the University of Toronto, the Université Laval in Québec City, and the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique (INRS) in Varennes/Montréal. Selected doctoral students will be offered joint supervision by two German and one Canadian supervisors, a long-term research stay in Canada (6…12 months), and an annual intercontinental summer or winter school with collocated project meetings.

We are looking for the most excellent Diploma or M.Sc. graduates in physics, photonics, engineering or a related subject with a strong interest in experimental integrated optics. Applicants must have gained experience working in their subject area during their completed degree program.

The recruitment procedure will be based on a strict selection process focusing on the candidates’ demonstrated potential for scientific excellence.
The part-time positions (75%) will be paid in accordance to the German Public Services Regulations TV-L up to E 13. For participating in this IRTG, no tuition fees are raised in either country.
