Lynne Gagliano Writer’s Award, 2019

The Lynne Gagliano Writer’s Award will support a young writer aged 18 – 25, to undertake a paid writing assignment and create a new piece of work with the Royal Court Theatre.

The ethos of the Lynne Gagliano Writer’s Award is based on the founding principles of Young Court as envisioned by Lynne Gagliano, who was the Head of the Royal Court’s Young Court, and a continuation of her invaluable legacy. In summer 2016 Lynne died suddenly. Having led the Royal Court’s work for and with young people since 2008, her vision placed writing excellence at the heart and her values gave young people the agency necessary, to ensure their voices were heard and their opinions were counted throughout the organization.

Eligibility
This award is open to writers of all levels of experience aged 18-25. The Royal Court is specifically looking for writers who perceive that there are barriers to getting their work developed and produced in theatre due to class, disability, education, ethnicity, gender identity, geography or any other barrier.

Benefits
The recipient of this award will be attached to the Royal Court for a year (40 days between January 2020 and December 2020), be assigned a mentor, receive free theatre tickets and engage with Royal Court Participation projects
