The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.
The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Centre (CaSToRC) of CyI invites applications for a professional who will be responsible of implementing computational co-development activities foreseen under the SimEA ERA Chair Project.
The successful candidate will contribute in research activities in the area of data management, and will be responsible for the development of tools and services (Java), including data analytics. The candidate will also undertake the addition and improvement of modules to an existing web-based scalable open source data management system, as well as the modification of the underlying code, as necessary, to meet the functionality required. The selected candidate will contribute to infrastructure that goes beyond digital humanities and is applied to various research disciplines internationally, specifically with https://clowder.ncsa.illinois.edu/, as well as the dissemination of PRACE research infrastructure http://www.prace-ri.eu/ and NI4OS-Europe infrastructure https://ni4os.eu/.
The duration of appointment will be of a fixed-term period renewable based on performance, funding availability and project needs of the Institute.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be carrying out the following activities
Contributing in Dissemination and Outreach activities including project specific website development, maintenance.
Contributing in project related training activities including the development and maintenance of the training portal and related web services.
Maintaining a well-functioning web-based scalable data management system.
Planning and implementing new modules to a web-based scalable data management system.
Adding or improving modules to existing website(s) and modification of the underlying code as necessary, to meet the functionality required.
Identify opportunities for the further enrichment and advancement of existing web-based scalable data management system (new user interfaces, new features and functionalities etc.).
