The Human Rights Tulip is an annual award of the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs for individuals or organisations that promote human rights worldwide in innovative ways. Since its establishment in 2008, the Human Rights Tulip has been awarded to individuals and organisations from a variety of countries. From 2013, the focus has been on the innovative character of their efforts. The prize is intended to help human rights defenders to learn from each other. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has chosen the nongovernmental organisation Hivos to facilitate the selection process and to support the winner in the further development of its work. The nomination period is between 15 June and 15 July 2015. The nominations will be assessed by Hivos and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and 30 nominees will be selected for public voting. Public voting will start on 9 September 2015. After the voting period, 6 candidates remain: 3 public favorites and 3 wild cards selected by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Hivos. An independent jury will meet and advice the Dutch minister of Foreign Affairs, who will select the winner.
Eligibility
Organizations, collectives and individuals who are active in the field of human rights can nominate themselves directly. Any individual can also nominate another individual, collective or organization.
Grant
The prize money is EUR 100,000. It will enable the winner to further develop or expand the scale of its work for human rights. In this way the from the prize will benefit more people in more places.
