The Institute for Molecular Virology (group of Dr. Daniel Sauter) at the Ulm University Medical Center offers positions for postdoctoral fellows and PhD students to participate in research focusing on the evolution and immune evasion mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2. The candidates will investigate cellular factors that are involved in sensing and restriction of SARS-CoV-2. Furthermore, they will characterize molecular mechanisms that SARS-CoV-2 and related coronaviruses have evolved to evade or counteract these innate immune responses. Their work will help to understand how SARS-CoV-2 successfully crossed the species barrier from animals to humans and may uncover entirely novel mechanisms of antiviral immunity.
