Helsinki Institute of Physics (HIP, www.hip.fi) is a joint research institute of five universities – University of Helsinki, Aalto University, University of Jyväskylä, Lappeenranta University of Technology, and Tampere University of Technology – which operates under the auspices of University of Helsinki. HIP has a national mandate to practise and promote basic research at international accelerator centra, to facilitate applied research and development, and to participate in graduate education in physics. HIP coordinates Finnish research at CERN and at FAIR GmbH.
The CMS research programme of Helsinki Institute of Physics is responsible for the Finnish participation in the CMS experiment at CERN.
Helsinki Institute of Physics has open positions as POST-DOCTORAL AND SENIOR SCIENTISTS in two projects of the CMS research programme: the CMS experiment project, and the CMS upgrade project. The positions are fixed term, three years, starting 1.1.2016. The positions will be filled as post-doctoral positions or as senior scientists, depending on the research experience and merits of the candidates. The positions will be based in Helsinki, with occasional travel to CERN.
The CMS experiment project participates in the analysis of the data from the CMS experiment, development of analysis tools and software, and CMS tracker alignment. The CMS upgrade project participates in the CMS pixel detector upgrade, and develops new radiation-hard tracking sensors. In addition, the project researchers participate in the CMS experimental service work.
