PhD Research Fellowships in Literatures in English, University of Oslo, Norway (2015-2016)

Two positions as PhD Research Fellow within literatures in English are available in the Literature, Rights, and Imagined Communities project in the Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages at the University of Oslo. Literature, Rights, and Imagined Communities studies the relationship between conceptions and practices of rights, forms and habits of imagining community, and the structure and practice of literature. The department seeks a PhD candidate with excellent research qualifications who will contribute to the project.

The applicant must present an independent subproject that lies within the scope of the Literature, Rights, and Imagined Communities project. This subproject should be within literature in English, focusing on any period or periods between the Renaissance and the present. The persons appointed will be affiliated with the Faculty’s organized research training. The academic work is to result in a doctoral thesis that will be defended at the Faculty with a view to obtaining the degree of PhD. The successful candidate is expected to join the existing research milieu or network and contribute to its developement. The appointment is for a duration of three years.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the position, applicants must have:
- A Master’s Degree or equivalent in English (literatures in English);
- Personal suitability and motivation for the position.

In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on:
- The applicant’s estimated academic and personal ability to complete the project within the time frame;
- The applicant’s ability to complete research training;
- Good collaboration skills and an ability to join interdisciplinary academic communties;
- The project’s scientific merit, research-related relevance and innovation.

Fellowship
The position is remunerated by salary of the level 50 – 56 NOK 430,500 – 475,400, (approximately EUR 48,870- 53,970) depending on qualifications. Moreover, research fellows will obtain attractive welfare benefits.
