For the last quarter of a century, there has been much talk around the world about the need for "sustainable cities". In order to better understand what this concept means in the way we live day to day, Living Rainforest has launched an essay competition for young people worldwide, from 7 to 17 years old, and their teachers to encourage them sharing their views on what "sustainable education" means to them, and the steps which they believe their countries should be taking in order to achieve it.
Students are invited to write an essay in English, on the theme "Are Sustainable Cities Possible?" as follows:
- Primary students (ages 7-11): max. 400 words;
- Secondary students (ages 11-17): max. 600 words.
For each category, schools can submit up to 30 essays.
Trophies for 1st to 5th places will be awarded in both categories and one overall Grand Prize Winner will receive a free trip to attend the 2016 Debates & Awards in Dubai, hosted by the Jumeirah English Speaking School, from 17 to 21 April 2016, together with a parent and the teacher champion.
