13-18/4/2015- UNESCO Leadership Program on “Teaching Through Research” (Paris)

The Center for Research & Interdisciplinarity (CRI) is glad to announce that the second edition of its UNESCO Leadership Program on “Teaching Through Research” will be held between the 13th and the 18th of April.

15 international young researchers (post-doc/young principal investigators) will be selected for this edition. The selection is based on their change-making and innovative projects at the interface between research and education.

The program consists of:

i. 4 intensive days of workshops, meet-ups and individual mentorship at the CRI, at the heart of the historical Marais district in Paris, France.
The successful candidates will work together with close mentorship to further develop their project and share best practices, with focus on concrete implementation, skill development and community building of change-makers. Mentors include former international participants of past edition, Mike Springer (Harvard), Stuart Firestein (Columbia), Melissa mcCartney (Science magazine), Jérôme Waldispuhl (McGill), CRI members and many others.
ii. Participation in the 2015 Commons Congress: Connecting Open Research, Open Education, and Open Social Impact, hosted at the Institut Pasteur in Paris organised with Sage Bionetworks, the 3 following days (April 16-18).

Confirmed participants include: Stephen Friend (Sage) and Francois Taddei (CRI) (Co-organizers), Helga Nowotny (former ERC president) Lee Hartwell (Nobel prize winner), Salman Khan (Khan academy), Bill Drayton (Ashoka founder), Samir Brahmachri (former head CSIR, INDIA, Head Open Drug Discovery), Joi Ito (MIT Media lab) and many others… (see earlier edition of this exciting meetinghere).
Workshop outcome for participants:
– Developing state-of-the-art approaches, tools and methodologies to boost their projects
– Sharing best practices during collaborative exchanges with peers and top notch international mentors
– Getting the capacity to lead similar workshop in home institution
– Participation in the Open Commons Congress

Workshop outcome for the participants’ institutions:
– Collaborative network across the globe for the development of an adapting curricula to the 21st century challenges and technologies
– Concrete road-map for (i) implementation of the project and (ii) training teachers at the interface with research

Who can apply? Researchers engaged in teaching with experience up to 12 years after their PhD and/or holding a PI position (lecturer/tenure track/assistant/associate professorship.

Fellowships: The workshop is partially funded by a French ministry grant for innovating education, allowing for a number of travel and participation fellowships for successful applicants. If you aim for a fellowship – mention it in the application.
