7 PhD Positions, Luxembourg Institute of Health, Luxembourg (2017)

CANBIO is a competitive PhD training program supported by the research funding scheme PRIDE of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR). The CANBIO doctoral training unit will provide structured PhD training in cancer biology and aims to bridge fundamental cancer research with clinically-oriented applications.

Opening of 7 PhD Student Positions in Cancer Research Focusing on Tumour Escape Mechanisms

Positions are funded up to 4 years with fixed-term contracts. Earliest start date: September 2017.

The research-intensive program tackles next-generation cancer biology covering molecular mechanisms of tumour progression, treatment resistance and biomarker discovery, as well as building computational disease models to facilitate innovative translational research. It focuses on tumour escape mechanisms, thus addressing the increasingly important clinical problem of tumour recurrence and drug resistance. The program includes transferable skill training, support in career development, scientific lectures by international speakers and annual PhD retreats.

PhD candidates will conduct their research project either at the Department of Oncology of the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH, Luxembourg), at the Life Sciences Research Unit of the University of Luxembourg (Campus Belval, Esch-sur-Alzette) or at the Laboratoire National de Santé (LNS, Dudelange).

Several projects involve external collaborations. Depending on the project, PhD candidates will be enrolled at a doctoral school of the University of Luxembourg, the University of Bergen (Norway) or the University of Paris-Saclay (France).
