Call for Research Trainee from Simula Research Laboratory AS in Norway.
They are looking for a research trainee to join their team of senior and junior researchers in the Networks department of the Centre for Resilient Networks and Applications (CRNA) at Simula. CRNA focus on robustness and security of ICT infrastructures. This involves research on networks and applications with the aim of making them resilient with respect to failures and changing environment. The Networks department works on resilience in communication networks and applications from a measurement perspective, through prototyping and through theoretical studies.
What is a research trainee?
Research trainee is a 12 months position before a doctoral degree. During this period you should get an understanding of: (1) the craft of research; (2) the potential impact of your research through contact with external user communities (industrial companies, hospitals, application-oriented research groups, etc.); and (3) what it really takes to achieve a doctoral degree.
At the end of this period, the trainee and the research group will conclude whether there is a common basis on which the trainee can pursue a doctoral degree.
The research trainee will work on building a small-scale prototype of a mobile network and use that to explore research questions related to 5G. He/she is expected to
- Help building a small scale prototype of an LTE network
- Study and understand the wireless and network protocols
- Design experiments that uses the lab setup including writing the experimental scripts
Your Profile
Interested applicants should:
- Hold a masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related fields
- Highly motivated to pursue a Ph.D. and to tackle challenging research problems
- Have a solid background in computer networks and good systems, programming and scripting
skills
- Familiarity with Linux
- Demonstrate excellent level of spoken and written English
- Possess good interpersonal skills and show willingness to work as part of a team
Familiarity with MBB networks, virtualization, network protocols and kernel programming is a
plus.
