Training Course: "EQuip!"
19-27 June 2023 | Szeged, Hungary
A training course about emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence (EQ or EI) is the capability of people to recognize both their own emotions and those of others, distinguish feelings and handle them appropriately, guide thinking and behavior through emotional information. Some people have an incredibly high IQ but low EQ. Other people have incredibly high EQ but low IQ. People whose IQ or EQ is low are lack of something, their life is incomplete. By today it is obvious that general intelligence and emotional intelligence are equally important to have a well-balanced life and to achieve personal and professional goals as well. According to some psychologists, EQ is actually more important than IQ. As general intelligence can be improved, also emotional intelligence might be (and must be) developed. Emotional intelligence may become really important in unexpected situations, such as loss of job or when people have to face an absolutely new life style and daily routine.
Adult people, parents or teachers, often face difficulties when they have to understand and handle young people’ emotions and feelings. The problem is that often also adult people have too low emotional intelligence and they are not able to neither recognize it. Moreover, traditional education does not focus on the development of young people’s emotional intelligence, because teachers are often not equipped with the required skills and knowledge. At the same time, there is a need to develop young people’s emotional intelligence and they have considered youth organizations and youth workers able to do this. Therefore, project partners have decided to implement a project that aims to make youth workers able to implement nonformal activities that focus on the development of young people’s emotional intelligence. To reach this, project partners have decided to implement a training course where youth workers
1) can gain knowledge about emotional intelligence and its importance in our daily lives;
2) can get to know different aspects of emotional intelligence;
3) can learn methods and techniques to develop emotional intelligence trying out activities that improve also their EQ.
