The John Thompson Scholarship was established in 2008 in memory of John Thompson—one of Ireland’s most prominent newspaper executives—to provide full tuition fees for one student to DCU’s full-time MSc in Digital Marketing. John Thompson contributed a lot towards Irish Journalism. He was the key player in the launching and developing of a myriad of successful publications, such as U Magazine and The Irish Farmers Journal. A scholarship is now provided to unite digital marketing and online journalism. It calls for graduates from all types of educational backgrounds to integrate digital marketing with media and journalism.
Students will gain industry insights, networking opportunities, and hands-on experience with state-of-the-art technologies. The program is not only furnished with theoretical knowledge but also practical skills valued highly in the digital marketing industry. Recipients will engage with experienced professionals. Attendance at workshops and participation in real-world projects are amongst the activities in this course. This, in turn, enhances their employ-ability and prospects in career development. This scholarship will help in enhancing complete practical knowledge of digital marketing and online journalism within the student so that they leave with the nodules to succeed within the ever-evolving landscapes of the media.
