The open positions are part of the Sustainability Transformation doctoral education pilot SusTra, which involves ten universities and the Finnish Environment Institute, SYKE. Research within the doctoral education pilot focuses on sustainability transformations in different sectors of society to find solutions to climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainable use and management of natural resources. For more information about SusTra, please see Doctoral education addressing sustainability transformations.
Research in the open positions will focus on system-level changes to ensure that human activities do not exceed the carrying capacity of the planet. Ecological economics provides a conceptual umbrella for approaches such as the following:
growth critique and decolonisation of the economic system
social metabolism and sustainable management of critical flows
sufficiency and ecological modernisation of production and consumption practices
